Greetings Warren Band Students and Parents,
Here are some updates and reminders for the week of May 1, 2017 (Please make sure you read all items so nothing is missed): 1) Band Booster Board Elections (Announcement) - Elections for booster officers for next year took place at the last booster meeting (Wednesday - April 26). - Their terms officially start on July 1. - Here are the results: President - Leon Lake Vice President - Lucy Carpentier Treasurer - Tracy Young Secretary - Gina Warda Congratulations to all the above people! 2) Next Marching Band Camp Dates (Reminder) Dates: July 31 until August 4, 2017 Times: 9 A - 5 P Location: O'Plaine campus. Separate e-mails with more details will continue to be sent out until band camp. 3) 6th Annual Live Arts Festival (Completed) Last Friday (April 28), this event took place at the WTHS Almond Campus. The events were more spread out thru the school than previous years, including the addition of the gym. In particular, the Varsity Winter Guard utilized the gym and were able to perform their routine for the first time! The Jazz Ensemble and Symphonic I bands also performed. All the performances were done well and there was a very good size crowd. Thanks to all the parent volunteers who helped us run the concessions, especially our coordinator, Tracy Young. 4) Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival Invitation Performance - Symphonic I Band (Reminder) Date: This Saturday (May 6, 2017) Location: University of Illinois - Champaign/Urbana. Performance Time: 4 PM Congratulations on this wonderful honor! Come out to support our amazing students (or watch the concert live by video streaming, if you cannot make it)! 5) Craft Fair (Reminder) This is our biggest fundraiser of each year! We still have many volunteer opportunities to help with the event, including coordinator(s). The more people that come forward, the less work there will be to do for each person and job. A lack of volunteers would put this important event in jeopardy! Please send an e-mail to the band booster website ASAP if you can help! 6) Jazz Band Concert (Completed) Last Thursday (April 27), all our Jazz Bands performed in the WTHS Almond Black Box Theatre. All our students did a wonderful job and performed with Mark Colby, a professional Tenor Sax player. Thanks to all the parent volunteers who volunteered to help, especially Tracy Young, our food coordinator. 7) Senior Day Party (Reminder) This year, the band Senior Day party will be held on Friday (May 12). As a reminder, on this day all Senior band students will go to the Almond choir room for some refreshments (typically cake, ice cream, drinks and some snacks) during their end of day band periods. We need some band parent volunteers to help purchase items ahead of time and distribute them to the students during the last 2 end of day band periods. If you already indicated your interest, please do do again to make sure you are included in the list of Senior Day Party volunteers. 8) Senior Flowers (Reminder) Each year, the band program/boosters gives out flowers to the Senior band students at the last band concerts of the school year (males get boutonnieres and females get corsages). We need some band parent volunteers to help distribute and attach the flowers to the students, as needed, at this band concert (May 16).
